Atomic Ranch Talk & Condo Tour: Renovating Ocotillo Lodge

The Ocotillo Lodge built in 1957 once served as a hotel for those lured into the glitz and glamour of Palm Springs living. As part of the larger Twin Palms development, guests often stayed there as they eyed a new home being built just across Palm Canyon Drive. Today, it's a coveted condo community.

Designed by Palmer & Krisel and built by the Alexander Company, the innovative bungalows featured skylights, jalousie windows, and deep overhangs to provide respite from the desert sun. Famed landscape architect Garrett Eckbo designed the grounds featuring the famous keyhole-shaped pool.

for a talk at the Lodge's legendary Clubhouse as editor Jickie Torres speaks with Ocotillo historians, board members, and homeowners who share about its fascinating history (once owned by actor/singer Gene Autry, then later Lakers owner Jerry Buss), and it's rumored guest list (said to include Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, Perry Como, and the Rolling Stones) and more! You'll also see renovation in action thanks to events like Modernism Week and learn about how its community members organize current renovation efforts. Last but not least, you'll get to tour four charming one-story bungalows within the property.

*Please note that one of the tour homes has been included in a previous Modernism Week tour.
